Types of Mold You May Find In Your Air Ducts

over 2,800 reviews

Mold growth in the home is a not-so-uncommon problem for our area. Thanks to the excessive humidity from island life, you may be more likely to spot some mold growing in and around your home than not. But did you know that mold can also be found inside your HVAC system?

Common Kinds of Mold in the Home

Mold needs dark, warmth, and moisture to grow. In the right conditions, mold spores can germinate in as little as 24-48 hours! While most mold is harmless, for those with respiratory issues or compromised immune systems, mold can be incredibly harmful.

Here are three common species of mold to keep an eye out for at home:

  • Stachybotrys – This greenish or black mold is considered highly toxic. The mold spores can grow rapidly with little moisture and can be hard to spot since it likely takes root deep inside your air vents.
  • Mucor – Another serious form of toxic mold, mucor also likes to hide out inside your HVAC system — making it easy to spread throughout your home. This mold should be dealt with as soon as possible to keep your home and family safe.
  • Aspergillus – This extremely common kind of mold is also the cause of aspergillosis, a lung infection that can lead to extreme health complications. Because there are 150 different species of aspergillus, it can be hard to spot by the average homeowner. Most commonly, this mold can appear with a brown, white, or yellow color.

There are many kinds of mold that can be found growing inside your home. The best way to prevent indoor air contamination is to schedule HVAC system maintenance regularly. Your technician should be able to spot potential problems before they become hazardous to your health.

Shon Bolo was very courteous. He was very informative about how Plumbing is just as important as the engine of a car. He was very respectful. Even though I wasn’t able to get everything done as expected. Shon was able to install my laundry tub to get my washer ready to drain and connected. Definitely would recommend shon bolo to friends and neighbors. Thank you very much for the wonderful job. Great service Shon!!
